The scope of paint correction.

It is important to understand what can be achieved with a cut and polish. To help with this, we have called on our old "Grimecar" (2004 Toyota Corolla wagon with 290,000 kilometers on it's clock) to show you what is possible. It goes without saying that a car with that many kilometers will have a fair amount of wear and scratches on it's paint work.

Before any paint correction can occur, it is important to know what paint is present on the car. Most modern cars shoud have between 100 and 150 microns in coating depth (primer, base and clear). To this end, a coating depth gauge is a necessary tool. Generally, I will not try to correct paint under 100 microns.

To effect paint correction, you are basically removing some of the protective clear coat that has been applied to the base coat. It is therefore essential that a suitable protective coating is applied after the paint correction process. That is where the "polish" part of the cut and polish is important. At a minimum, we will use a wax product for this purpose.
